Grand Marnier French Toast
Grand Marnier French Toast
French toast is one of those meals that I use to prepare as a kid all of the time. It felt so fancy. So when my mom gave me permission to use the stove on my own, and like, “really” exercise my independence - French Toast seemed like a very mature approach. Somewhere down the breakfast line, my love for French Toast waned. Losing the battle to my beloved waffles and pancakes. Alas, she still holds a place in my heart. Don’t call it a comeback.
This version brings lots of sass with a dose of citrus liqueur baked into the batter. The standout for me is the brûléed orange slices. The caramelization gives so much intensity and the flavors melt into the toast. This is decadent as hell. I’ll take 15 of them.

RECIPE
To Make Brûléed Oranges
Heat a small skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle one side of the orange slices with sugar. Then place the orange slices sugared-side down into the hot skillet. Cook undisturbed until lightly caramelized, about 1-2 minutes. Remove the orange slices from the skillet and place them sugared-side up on a clean plate. Set aside.
To Make French Toast
Whisk batter in a large bowl or shallow casserole dish (easy for dipping) until well blended and set aside.
In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Dip bread in egg mixture. Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side.
Top with the oranges, glazed pecans, whipped cream and syrup to taste
