Home Office Makeover with Blogger: Starla Kay Mathis

Sometimes you get lucky, and you get paired up with the perfect girl to work with. Well Starla was it, you guys! Starla Kay Mathis is a creative guru and lifestyle blogger specializing in photography, graphic and web design. She also gives lots of tips for a well balanced home, while keeping yourself feeling and looking fabulous. She's the 2017 Shea Moisture Ambassador of the year! Be sure to head her way to take advantage of her resources.

Starla approached me in need of a little TLC when it came to her home office. As a creative, it's an absolute must to have your working space well defined and ready for productivity. Her hubby also works in the tech field, so it was obvious that they needed to upgrade the space to make things work for both of them.

So what did we do? A makeover of course! Starla had some inspiration photos that resonated with her (via Pinterest - duh). We brainstormed and decided to tackle this project with a few priorities in mind. I'd like to say we knocked it out the park:

  1. Organization and Functionality - We needed two new desk areas and an additional work bench to spread out large projects. We also needed to add in smart shelving and storage options.

  2. Aesthetic - The existing colors were a little dark, and didn't take advantage of the beautiful lighting in their basement den. Starla and I agreed that we should brighten up the space with light grey paint, open shelving and white furnishings. I convinced her to toss in some earth tones and subtle warm accents. Clean + Simple was the goal.

  3. His and Hers Style - Okay, sometimes we have to share lol! Since this is a dual office, it was important for us to add in unique items that speak to their individual personalities.

  4. Budget - Sticking to the budget is always a plus, so we got creative with DIY accents and deals whenever we could find them!

A couple of IKEA trips (swedish meatballs), paint swatches, and copious Snapchat selfies later...voila! Oh the fun we had. How did we do? Let me know what you think of the before and afters. I'm so pleased with the outcome, and glad to be of assistance to my fellow creatives.
